Use References
Much like Drawing, Writing can be made easier by using References.
Make a list of your favorite Books, Movies, Series, Games & Albums.
Use the Stories Archetypes in these materials as Reference.
If you can’t find references get 1 Novel, 1 book of Poetry & 1 Fable book.
That should serve as sufficient reference to Improvise.
How to know if you like what you’re Writing
If you want to turn your Standalone into a Series, you’re liking what you’re writing.
Characters Likeability is what will make your Stories likeable.
For You & your Public.
Likeable Characters will make you & your public want to return to your Stories.
Likeable Characters allow for more enjoyable relationships.
Therefore, to create likeable Characters think about your Characters 1st.
The last element you’re consider is Environments.
Exploring Environments should be enjoyable for You & your Public.
In order to create Enjoyable Environments you want to balance Attractiveness & Inaccessibility.
Clarity & Simplicity
Having a Plan will help you finish your Book.
Write the End 1st in order to maximize Clarity.
You’ve defined why you like your Story, Characters & Environments.
Now you can see why they’re part of your Book.
This will help you to write Straightforwardly.
If you have still hesitant or unmotivated, write Shortly.
Short Sentences, short Scenes, short Chapters, short Books.
Ex: 6 Words per sentence, 100-120 lines per Scene, 4 scenes per Chapter, 10 chapters per Book.
When you’re Ready
When you’re ready to Write consider these 3 Routines :
- Write a Page a Day.
- Draw a picture a Day, preferably Characters.
- Make a list of 4 Main Themes defining you (ex: Change, Adversity, Fate, Friendship, Loyalty, Conflicts, Oddities…), and revise it.
Once you can do that, aim to write 3–4 pages a day.
The more books you’ll write the more likely you are not to be blocked.
