2. The Bones

The Bones…

They shamble.

P:”The Folly.”

R:”Quiet.”

P:”The limbs.

The trunks.

And the skulls.

Exposed as a wall.”

R:”Shut up.

I’m listening.”

There must be 12 of them.

But as they are disposed, they look like a million.

     Aligned.

They’re all aligned.

Markings on the skulls & hands.

Signs…

What are these?

Words?

He walks away from the wall.

He pulls me away.

I fall behind.

I bounce on something.

Moist & greasy…

He pulls me.

The carcass of a Doe.

R:”Don’t touch your face!”

P:”What?”

R:”…”

He grabs my forearms without touching my hands.

A scream from behind the walls.

Pounding.

Flinging.

The same scream.

A Shot in the distance.

Far.

Far from where we are.

Bombing.

Something resonates.

Moist sounds.

I can barely hear them.

But the weapons have shot from so far…

These moist sounds.

We shouldn’t be hearing them.

The weapon have shut.

Words, loud words.

I don’t understand the language.

But they sound like insults.

P:”We-”

R:”Listen.”

P:”…”

R:”Get back further.”

P:”What are they doing?”

R:”Recoil.”

I get further away from the bone wall.

P:”Where are they?”

R:”Around.”

P:”Where?”

R:”I can’t tell exactly.”

P:”Why are they hiding?”

R:”They’re observing.”

P:”We’re a threat?”

R:”I can’t tell.”

P:”Why would they attack us if we aren’t?”

R:”They are different.”

P:”That’s stupid.”

I walk to the bone wall.

I place myself in front of it.

R:”?!”

He’s paralyzed.

     He looks at me.

Because he knows something could happen to me.

     But he won’t move.

If something happens to someone else, it’s not his problem.

     But nothing comes.

     There were thrown objects.

These stones weren’t handled by animals.

     They’re there in the bushes.

But they don’t know what to do.

They will act if they know how to act.

     They have their habits.

I don’t know what this wall is.

But must have been made to frighten creatures.

     Animals, or humans.

I don’t know why they look at us.

But they’ll have to come if they want to know more.
